Swamy is passionate about building ML-driven applications and engineering great data-driven products. When not working, he loves to build and fly model airplanes or hike around the Bay Area.
Filippo (He/Him) is a dynamic full stack developer who hails from Italy. He graduated with a master degree in HCI from the Universities of Paris and Helsinki. He then worked in Kielikone oy (Finland) for two years as a web developer, developing recommendation systems and payment integrations. He’s keen to learn new technologies and find neat solutions to complex problems. At Arch, he works on both backend and frontend software development.
Staff Software Engineer
Matt (He/Him) is a hands-on software engineer with experience building robust systems software for unique hardware products. He holds a BS from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and MS from the University of Maryland College Park in Electrical Engineering. Prior to Arch, Matt was among the first engineers to join the software team at Mythic, where they developed an end-to-end compiler for cutting edge deep learning accelerator chips. In 2011, Arch’s CTO and Co-founder, Tim Burke, was in Tanzania trying to help rural village dwellers have access to clean drinking water. Previously, the focus had been on drilling new wells, but they had recently become aware of an alarming fact: 40% of existing wells are broken at any given time. Furthermore, over 80% of existing wells across Sub-Saharan Africa were broken, wells no longer helping no one.
To solve this, Burke and his team endeavored to build an ultra-low-cost cellular monitoring system that could leapfrog traditional utilities the way cellular phones leapfrogged landlines.
But the technology just wasn’t there.
In 2015, Stanford colleagues Andrew Scheuermann and Tim Burke founded Arch to provide that technology and, by 2016, wells serving up to 10,000 people were equipped in Tanzania.
The problem in Africa is not unique. People all over the world recognize such opportunities and are trying to build smart, connected infrastructure yet lack the tools and resources necessary to do the job.
